The majestic building, situated in the heart of the coastal town of Koper-Capodistria, has been home to the Grand Koper hotel for the past two years – a Design & Gourmet hotel, that looks more of a movie set than an accommodation facility.
Originally designed as a school by Italian architect Angiolo Mazzoni in the late 40s and turned into a hotel in 1952 by the Slovenian architect Edo Mihevc was recently completely refurbished. In 2021, the hotel received a BigSee interior Design Award for its interior design signed by AKSL architect and David Tavčar Design Practice.
Large windows, overlooking the bay of Koper, vivid colours and marine creatures as a focal element of hotel´s interiors are the key features of the hotel, open 365 days a year. Apart from it´s interior design, the hotel is renowned also for it´s À la carte Restaurant Capra – a number 1 Restaurant in Koper, according to TripAdvisor. Capra can accommodate 125 persons when chosen as a venue for private events.
Within the hotel you will also find: pizzeria Caprizza, Carlo Lounge bar, Club room for meetings up to 55 persons, Co-working corner, panoramic terrace, bike-storage room and e-charging station for electric vehicles. Only a short walk away you can find the main town´s attractions such as a 15th century Praetorian palace, a striking example of Venetian-Gothic style, the church of St. Mary´s assumption and Bell tower.
