Over 250 companies presented their offer to job-seekers in Ljubljana
One of the largest-ever Career Fairs took place in Ljubljana last week. GR hosted the Career Fair, where over 250 companies presented their offering. Taking place on 9 May 2024, the event welcomed several thousand job-seekers looking to find a job or change their profession.
The event served as a catalyst for finding new talent In light of the acute staff shortages on the market. The companies presenting their services jointly have 124,772 employees. Last year, these employers announced as many as 21,925 vacancies. Most of them were in the fields of manufacturing, health and social care, trade, transport and storage, and catering.
Among the exhibitors was the University Rehabilitation Institute of the Republic of Slovenia Soča. Viki Kotar, the Assistant Director of Health Care there, welcomed such an opportunity for employers and explained that they mainly presented professions that they needed the most. “The problem with the Slovenian workforce is the lack of nurses, but we also need orthopaedic doctors and prosthetics engineers, production engineers, cooks and assistants.”

Career fairs as platforms for improving the labour market
Kotar exuded confidence on their stand, hoping to secure contracts with two future nurses and at least three prosthetics engineers. In the first hour, four suitable candidates had already approached their stand.
“Trade fairs like this prove that there are also good jobs in Slovenia, that there are good employers who, in addition to the wages they can provide, also work a lot to take care of the workers, nurture good working relationships, offer flexible forms of working and the possibility of remote work,” said Greta Metka Barbo Skerbinc, Director at the Employment Service of Slovenia. She shed light on the importance of fairs and added that the number of visitors shows that there are a lot of motivated job seekers looking for opportunities in the labour market. Regarding the record low unemployment rate, which currently stands at 45,000, she said that it will change in the coming months, as an influx of first-time job seekers is expected again in the autumn months.
GR – the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre proved to be the ideal venue for presenting the diverse professions of renowned companies. Job-seekers praised the venue’s layout, which helped them find their possible employers easily.
