Croatia Airlines welcomed the new, modern Airbus A220 aircraft in Zagreb this week. The first of 15 ordered aircraft landed in Zagreb a little after 10 o’clock. It comes directly from the factory in Mirabel, Canada, where it has been assembled and checked every detail in recent months to make the plane ready and safe for traffic. All the tests were completed and the plane left tonight for Zagreb, whose name it will carry along with the registration mark, the Croatian flag and the recognisable colours of the national airline.
It is a job worth more than half a billion dollars, and the arrival of the second aircraft is expected by the end of the year. Most of them will arrive in 2025, with the last issues arriving in 2026 so that in three years the fleet will be completely renewed and unified. The company stated that this would significantly reduce operating costs during aircraft maintenance and staff training. A total of 15 aircraft were ordered, 13 in a configuration with 149 seats and two in a configuration with 127 seats.
Silence, comfort and practicality are the three words that most often describe it in Airbus catalogues. The seats are more comfortable and wider, they have adjustable headrests and built-in coat hangers, and passengers will like the USB-A and USB-C ports for fast charging of devices, with a charger power of 60 Watts. In addition, practical holders for mobile phones and tablets are installed above the coffee table with a cup holder. The aisle is also wider because the configuration is 3 x 2 seats, meaning that there are five seats in each row instead of six. The luggage compartments above the passengers’ heads are bigger and more spacious.
